EXCELLENCE
At Boise Cascade, we’re pursuing excellence by embracing our differences. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity and creates connection where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are embedded in our Company’s Core Values. Integrity means doing the right thing. Valuing associates from all backgrounds with inclusion and fairness to create a sense of belonging is not only good business; it’s the right thing to do. Business Inclusion Groups (BIGs) In 2023, we established six Business Inclusion Groups (BIGs). BIGs are associate-led groups that support our DEI strategy, build a community of belonging around shared identity, provide learning and engagement opportunities for colleagues, and serve as a resource for insights that drive business impact. One of our Business Inclusion Groups is NextGen, which strives to build a prosperous future for the next generation of associates and foster a culture that bridges across generations so all ages can contribute and thrive. Ethan Vongsouthi is an Accounting Specialist at our Building Materials
Distribution (BMD) branch in Woodinville, Washington, and a valued member of our NextGen Business Inclusion Group. Ethan takes the long view when he thinks about the importance of cross-generational learning: “When I think of NextGen, I think of the people 50 to 100 years from now. I think of our children and grandchildren. One of the reasons I joined NextGen is to better understand what I can do to ensure the oldest generation alive is happy and the future generations are happy with how we have left this planet.” “The goal is to build a bridge between generations to make it easier for them to work together, communicate with one another, and learn from each other,” Ethan said. “We need to get rid of the mindset that the way other generations do things is ‘wrong’ and be able to provide ideas and input to one another. I saw this first-hand in the Marines – when people in their 20s had authority and responsibility over people in their 40s and 50s. Folks of different backgrounds and cultures learned to work together and respect the different strengths, skills, and perspectives everyone had to offer.”
