Environmental Stewardship COMPLIANCE Execution of a robust environmental policy to protect water and air quality around our locations CARBON AND CLIMATE Utilizing innovative technology to turn wood from healthy forests into products that store carbon for years to come
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP Our executive leadership develops the strategic goals for Boise Cascade and then partners with management at our locations to determine how we go about achieving them. Overall, our aim is to operate in ways that sustain natural resources and protect the environment for generations to come. We have a solid record of responsible environmental commitment and performance. We manage our businesses to sustain environmental resources for future generations by: • Responsibly using energy and forest resources. • Protecting air and water quality near our manufacturing sites. • Reducing, reusing, and recycling manufacturing and finished product waste materials. • Collaborating with others by listening to and acting on constructive ideas to demonstrate our commitment.
Zero-Emissions Electric Truck in Salt Lake City
In keeping with our commitment to the pursuit of excellence, on Earth Day 2024, our Building Materials Distribution (BMD) branch in Salt Lake City, Utah, received the keys to its new zero-emissions electric vehicle. Associates and several guests gathered on April 22 to celebrate and learn more about the Kenworth ™ T680E Class 8 battery-electric truck. Boise Cascade was the first company in the Intermountain West to add one to their fleet.
“This project is a perfect opportunity to test our ability to incorporate sustainability in our daily operations, which further reduces our impact on the environment,” said Glen Lang, manager for our Building Materials Distribution (BMD) branch in Salt Lake City, Utah. “We are excited to see how we can put this asset to work in minimizing our environmental footprint while achieving our ROI.”

Wood is the ultimate earth-friendly building material that comes from a renewable resource and stores carbon for years to come. For the Weathervane project, Boise Cascade engaged WoodWorks to generate a carbon summary that detailed the many ways that Boise Cascade’s engineered wood products reduced or stored carbon emissions over the entire lifecycle of the development. The project resulted in a carbon benefit equivalent to removing 2,825 cars off the road for one year or enough energy to operate 1,411 homes for one year. We are proud to be part of a project with buildings designed to use 30 to 40 percent less energy than a typical code-compliant unit. This aligns us very closely with the developer’s focus and goals both now and in the future. Through our commitment to environmental stewardship, we actively contribute to the responsible use and protection of the natural resources, which benefits our associates, our customers, and the communities in which we work and live.
SawTek To reduce waste and use engineered wood products more efficiently, our customers can use our BCConnect ® software and SawTek ® systems. This technology combines software and hardware into an all-in-one saw system that calculates the optimum cutting strategy for each job. SawTek automatically cuts utility holes, then labels and organizes everything into framer-optimized job packs. By using SawTek to precision trim our engineered wood products in 2023, we were able to reduce 554,978 lineal feet of waste, which is equal to 1,736,246 pounds of waste in jobsite dumpsters. For lumberyards, it means they can more accurately forecast their inventory. For builders, it can mean reduced construction times or installation errors because everything is cut, labeled, and ready to go. Weathervane Community With a plan that called for 28 miles of engineered wood products, the Weathervane Community Project in Boulder, Colorado, was a perfect fit for both our business and our dedication to environmental stewardship. This development has 317 units of multi-family housing with 12,000 sq. ft. of commercial space and a myriad of recreational amenities — all built with a deep commitment to sustainability.

Sustainable Forestry RESPONSIBLE APPROACH Promoting biological diversity, protecting water quality, and encouraging reforestation VERIFICATION Demonstrating our commitment through annual third-party forest certification audits
SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY We rely on forests for logs to make our wood products and are committed to managing forests today in a way that means there will be an abundance of healthy, diverse forests in the future. Healthy forests provide value to society in many ways. Trees help protect air and water quality, supply important habitat for wildlife, offer recreational opportunities, and provide forest industry careers, as well as economic value. We do not own forestlands, but we take steps to assure our customers that we are legally and responsibly sourcing the wood we use. Our goal is to ensure all wood: 1) comes from sources that are compliant with country, region, and local laws and regulations, and 2) is harvested in a manner that balances the needs of the environment, wildlife, and surrounding communities.
Promoting Conservation of Biological Diversity
We are committed to responsible forest management principles that help protect and conserve forest habitat and biodiversity. We use loggers who have been trained in practices to comply with state and provincial laws to protect conservation values and culturally important sites. Their training includes measures to protect water quality and conserve wildlife habitat. During the planning process for our locations, we conduct biodiversity assessments in which we source wood to work with harvesting professionals to mitigate risks to threatened and endangered species. Our procurement practices
create opportunities to enhance grazing areas for deer, protect gopher tortoise nesting sites, and support healthy streams for spawning salmon, among many other positive impacts for biological diversity. Our procurement associates work collaboratively with forest products research and outreach groups to proactively impact initiatives that promote management practices that support conservation of biological diversity and the protection of threatened and endangered species.

Women in Industry Forestry and Mill Tour
In 2023, a group of 15 women from Boise Cascade and D.R. Horton ® , the largest U.S. homebuilder by volume, journeyed to Medford, Oregon, for a comprehensive overview of the process to manufacture engineered wood products. The two-day trip began in the woods to understand the logging process and sustainable forestry practices. The group then toured three of our mills: Medford Plywood, White City Veneer, and White City Engineered Wood Products. The experience enabled participants to learn more about each other’s day-to-day roles, as well as how products go from log procurement to the manufacturing floor to the finished products installed in a home. The event was so successful that it was repeated in 2024 with another group of women in the industry, including our customers Builders FirstSource ® and Beazer Homes. Our commitment to sustainable forestry practices contributes to healthy forests to create abundant wood supply for products people need in their daily lives, as well as sustain areas for wildlife to call home and people to enjoy for recreation.
Verifying Our Practices We have dedicated teams of procurement
associates at each of our manufacturing locations who engage directly with suppliers, landowners, and loggers in the supply chain. Understanding where all our wood originates is a responsibility that our procurement teams take very seriously, and it is a key element of our due-diligence system. Our suppliers must agree to rigorous contractual requirements to provide legally harvested wood, which includes the protection of threatened and endangered species; use of loggers trained in responsible harvest practices; and adherence to forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to protect water quality. Each year we conduct internal audits of our sustainable forestry practices at all manufacturing locations, and a sample of our locations are audited by a third party. We value the opportunities to continually improve our practices that arise during the audit process.

EXCELLENCE
At Boise Cascade, we’re pursuing excellence by embracing our differences. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity and creates connection where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are embedded in our Company’s Core Values. Integrity means doing the right thing. Valuing associates from all backgrounds with inclusion and fairness to create a sense of belonging is not only good business; it’s the right thing to do. Business Inclusion Groups (BIGs) In 2023, we established six Business Inclusion Groups (BIGs). BIGs are associate-led groups that support our DEI strategy, build a community of belonging around shared identity, provide learning and engagement opportunities for colleagues, and serve as a resource for insights that drive business impact. One of our Business Inclusion Groups is NextGen, which strives to build a prosperous future for the next generation of associates and foster a culture that bridges across generations so all ages can contribute and thrive. Ethan Vongsouthi is an Accounting Specialist at our Building Materials
Distribution (BMD) branch in Woodinville, Washington, and a valued member of our NextGen Business Inclusion Group. Ethan takes the long view when he thinks about the importance of cross-generational learning: “When I think of NextGen, I think of the people 50 to 100 years from now. I think of our children and grandchildren. One of the reasons I joined NextGen is to better understand what I can do to ensure the oldest generation alive is happy and the future generations are happy with how we have left this planet.” “The goal is to build a bridge between generations to make it easier for them to work together, communicate with one another, and learn from each other,” Ethan said. “We need to get rid of the mindset that the way other generations do things is ‘wrong’ and be able to provide ideas and input to one another. I saw this first-hand in the Marines – when people in their 20s had authority and responsibility over people in their 40s and 50s. Folks of different backgrounds and cultures learned to work together and respect the different strengths, skills, and perspectives everyone had to offer.”

COMMUNITY
Habitat for Humanity In August, 20 volunteers from our headquarters office and Building Materials Distribution (BMD) branch in Boise, Idaho, partnered with Habitat for Humanity ® to build four playhouses. The finished playhouses were then donated to four local non- profit children’s organizations, including the local Boys & Girls Club. “This was an awesome way to give back to organizations that do so much for kids in our community,” said Beth Mediate, Senior Marketing Coordinator for Engineered Wood Products in our Wood Products division and the current chair of the volunteerism committee at our headquarters office. At Boise Cascade, opportunities to pursue excellence, act with integrity and respect, and focus on safety are continuously at the forefront of building our culture. In other words, we are continually driven by our Purpose and Values, seeking to be better tomorrow than we are today.
Community has always been at the core of who we are. It’s our responsibility to have a positive influence as an employer in the communities where we operate. We use our time, talent, and treasures to partner with charitable organizations that align with our values and provide measurable and meaningful impact to help people and communities thrive. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital In August 2024, we had a special Boise Cascade Day of Giving for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ® . For every truckload of product we sold on August 7th, our Company donated $128.56 to St. Jude in honor of Carson Elizabeth. Our goal was to raise at least $100,000. We were able to more than double our goal and raised over $250,000, with the help of our associates, customers, vendors, and friends. Why $128.56 per truckload? Because that’s how much Carson was able to collect in coins and loose change between the time she was diagnosed with cancer and the time of her passing. She asked her parents to give all the money she had collected to St. Jude. “Carson’s strength and courage have deeply touched many of us and we are committed to making a difference in her memory,” said Nathan Sikes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing in our Building Materials Distribution (BMD) division. “By partnering with St. Jude, we aim to contribute to their ongoing efforts to find cures and save lives.”
